An additional 1.7 million people are expected to be added to the list of those asked to shield from coronavirus in England. Over 900,000 have already been vaccinated, with the remainder to be prioritised by GPs. It comes after a new model was developed that takes into account extra factors rather than just health including ethnicity, deprivation and weight.
Four passengers have been fined £10,000 for failing to declare they had travelled from countries on the "red travel list". West Midlands Police explained the four had been stopped at border control by officials at Birmingham Airport, after the rules came into force on Monday.
