KEEP OR RELEASE: What is Fabian Schar’s future at Newcastle?
Fabian Schar's contract expires this summer and questions are being asked about his future at Newcastle United.
The Swiss centre-back joined the club in 2018 and has become an important member of the squad.
However, his injury record is of concern and may sway Steve Bruce's attention elsewhere.
The Newcastle manager made an effort to "buy British" over the summer and may be tempted to do so again this time around.
Which could mean Schar may be allowed to leave the club.
On this week's Newcastle United podcast, one of the viewers asked for the team's opinion on the defender.
Should they keep or release Fabian Schar?
"If you'd asked me that question before we played Everton... I would've been tempted to say maybe look for options to move him on," Rob Roobenstein said.
"We'd seen so much good from Schar and it kind of slipped. He's had some injury troubles and he hadn't been as good [as previous]."
The injuries forced him to miss time and others had stepped into the team, leaving Schar's return uncertain.
Yet, he did return and has since stayed in the first team for nine of the last 10 games at the time of writing.
That run of games may be enough to earn him an extended stay on the Tyne, but his dip in form and injury history may not be all down to him.
Rob added: "Recently, I think he's really stepped it up and he's looked a lot better.
"You start questioning. You can't be good and suddenly be bad two days later.
"Is it formation? Is it the training? Is it the tactics? Is it the manager?"
