NEWS ROUNDUP: Northern treasury campus & freeport status granted
348 new cases of coronavirus were reported across the North East and North Yorkshire on Tuesday.
Another 343 people across the UK sadly passed away with the virus, the total number of fatalities is now over 123,000.
Treasury North
Darlington will be the home of the Treasury North campus. Businesses and MPs across the region had been hopeful of the news, with the town beating off competition from Newcastle, Leeds and Bradford. It will see almost 800 jobs relocate to the area.
Freeport
Freeport status has been granted to the Tees Valley. In another significant announcement from the spring budget, Rishi Sunak revealed plans for Teesport that would be a 'game changer' for the region, in a move that will "turbo charge Teesside's economy" bringing thousands of jobs and billions of pounds to the area.
