The southbound carriageway of the Scotswood Bridge will be closed to all traffic this weekend during daytime while essential maintenance work is carried out.
The bridge will be closed to southbound traffic between 6.00 am and 6.00 pm on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March 2021 to enable workers to replace the expansion joints to the north pier. The work is expected to take most of the day. Repairs to the bridge parapets and maintenance to the street-lighting including lamp replacement will also be carried out.
Diversion signs will direct motorists onto the A1 whilst the bridge is closed. Regular bridge users will already be aware of the temporary closure signs warning motorists of this weekend’s works were erected last week. Gateshead Council have apologised for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.
