LAST GASP: Late Willock goal hands Newcastle vital win

Joe Willock has become a super-sub of some sort for Steve Bruce as he hit the winner in Newcastle United's 3-2 win against West Ham.

After grabbing a point for the Magpies against Spurs, Willock put Newcastle six points clear of danger with this late winner.

Allan Saint-Maximin forced an own goal from Issa Diop as he and goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański tried to prevent him scoring.

West Ham were down to 10-men after the opener as the referee gave Craig Dawson a second yellow for a foul in the build-up.

Joelinton would tap in later after Fabiański dropped a cross inside the six-yard box.

West Ham would pull it back to 2-2 with Diop making amends for his own goal and then a Jesse Lingard penalty.

However, on-loan Arsenal man Willock struck late to hand Newcastle all three points.

“I thought the boys played well but sat too deep in the second half,” said Willock. “My first touch was rusty, but my second was a goal and I’ve been working on my heading.

“We are getting involved more in games, we are creating more opportunities and if we continue to do that we will be safe.

"Everyone is buying into what the manager is trying to do and we are pushing each other. Collectively we have grown during the hard times.”
