15 MILLION VACCINATIONS: What’s next as we enter ‘phase 2’?
Phase two of the UK's vaccination roll-out is now underway, with the next priority groups set to receive their jabs.
All over 65s and vulnerable over 16s, who have underlying health conditions, will now be offered a vaccine.
Vaccines have long been hailed as the way out of lockdown, and ever since the roll-out begun in December last year, optimism among those following the science here in the UK has increased. Wales became the first UK nation to hit its vaccination target just last week, and on the UK has been one of the leaders.
Over 15 million have now received their first jab, meaning 23%, or over one fifth, of the entire population.
Understandably, attention is now turning to how lockdown may ease, with the PM set to outline his road map in the commons next week, promising a cautious reopening.
Whilst Labour is urging the government to “lock in the gains” of vaccination, lockdown-sceptic backbenchers in the form of the Covid Recovery Group are calling for an end to restrictions as soon as all over 50s have received their first dose.
For leaders in the retail community, they’re preparing for a slightly more disruptive few months ahead.
Whatever the outcome, 22nd February will mark a significant moment in the road to recovery.
