NEWS ROUNDUP: Covid cases rising & kickstarting your career
Coronavirus North East update and how you can kickstart your career.
Coronavirus cases continue to rise across the North East. North Tyneside is experiencing the highest infection rate in the region with 112.5 per 100,000 people. We have yet to see a drastic increase in hospitalisations due to coronavirus.
County Durham is No.1!
County Durham has come out on top as the most affordable place to live when it comes to environmentally friendly housing. The study examined the average EPC score for new and existing properties for more than 200 areas across England and Wales, and compared it to the average house price in the area.
Kickstart your career
Youngsters looking to kickstart their career in the North East are being encouraged to take advantage of the governments Kickstart programme. Your Homes Newcastle is acting as a gateway for the scheme, matching 16-24 year olds with businesses for a 6 month paid placement as part of the regions covid recovery ambitions.
The scheme provides six month paid placements for the young people but at no cost to the business – the government pays their salary and provides an additional £1.5k for each young person to be trained – further supporting the economic recovery.
This is part of Rishi Sunak’s plan for jobs, with particular focus on young people aged 16-24 in receipt of Universal Credit.
Your Homes Newcastle feel that many local businesses are not aware of this, so they could be missing out, and it’s simple to access the candidates if they work with by utilising the support on offer, because YHN take the sting out of the admin side by sorting everything with the DWP.
A spokesperson from Your Homes Newcastle said “the pay off for us is that many of the young people being employed are our customers, and we really want them to have this chance at a career, which might otherwise be difficult in this uncertain time.”
