Thousands sign petition against privatisation and downgrade of South Tyneside hospital and horrific scenes of animal abuse filmed at North Yorkshire farm Willerby Wold Piggeries.
All but one council area across the region has seen an increase in coronavirus cases. Sunderland is the only area to have seen a decline. As of yet there has been no reported increase in hospitalisations or deaths from the virus.
South Tyneside hospital
Thousands in South Tyneside and Sunderland signed a petition against government plans to further downgrade and privatise South Tyneside hospital. Emma Lewell Buck, MP for South Shields will hand the petition over to the government in response to the services already lost and plans for further reductions.
Willerby Wold Piggeries
Scenes of horrific neglect and abuse of pigs at a farm in North Yorkshire have led to major supermarkets withdrawing orders after the Independent showed the footage. One vet said the monstrous scenes of diseased and abused animals at Willerby Wold Piggeries aren't uncommon across the farming industry. The farm said questions relating to animal welfare have been raised and taken very seriously.
