Lockdown has eased further and a trial to determine the effects of the coronavirus vaccine on pregnant women has begun in Newcastle.
Lockdown restrictions have eased further, seeing the return of indoor dining and many entertainment venues opening back up. It's a mixed picture in the region as coronavirus cases are increasing in some areas, but serious illness and hospitalisation from the virus does remain low.
The UKs first study to determine if the Covid vaccine is safe for pregnant women has begun in Newcastle. The research will see if the Pfizer-BioNtech jab can be administered during pregnancy without any adverse side effects. A similar study in the US raised no safety concerns.
