Passers by gathered on Monday night as the famous blue police box was spotted at Royal Albert Docks, along with Doctor Who stars Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill and new addition, John Bishop as filming for series 13 continues.

Bishop will fill the gap left by Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole. On New Year’s Day 2021 it was announced that John had joined the Doctor Who cast, and will play ‘Dan’ a character who ‘becomes embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures’. ‘Travelling through space and time alongside the Doctor and Yaz, he’ll face evil alien races beyond his wildest nightmares’.

The scene captured by local and superfan, Paul Tagliatelle, showed Dan (John Bishop) approaching the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) at the Tardis with the stunning Liverpool landscape from Royal Albert Dock in the background. The Doctor asks, “Need a lift anywhere?” and then, “Wanna come?” Dan then joins the Doctor and Yaz in the Tardis. The scene ends with the Doctor briefly looking out of the Tardis doors into the night.

The crowd were so pleased to get a glimpse of behind the scenes and Jodie Whittaker along with her co-stars were happy to chat to the fans, strike poses and interact between takes.

And if that wasn’t enough entertainment...

During the night shoot, another famous doctor, ‘Doctor Speedo’ one of Liverpool’s local heros – A young NHS doctor who is running 5k in only his speedos to raise money for ‘calmzone’ charity bumped into John Bishop. Howard String (doctor speedo) said 'John Bishop was incredibly kind and came running over with a huge pink dry robe between takes to keep me warm so I could carry on watching the filming'.

Eight episodes are planned for Doctor Who Series 13 with the filming continuing into July. The clip which introduced John Bishop as companion Dan is likely to air sometime in late autumn.
