COMING HOME: Cristiano Ronaldo agrees Manchester United return

COMING HOME: Cristiano Ronaldo agrees Manchester United return

PA - Martin Rickett

Manchester United have agreed a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the club from Juventus.

The 36-year-old is set to return to Old Trafford 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid.

Manchester City had looked in pole position to sign Ronaldo after their failed pursuit of Tottenham striker of Harry Kane, but they pulled out of the race on Friday afternoon.

City were offered the 36-year-old, who had made it clear he wants to leave Juventus, and were considered front-runners for his signature but decided the deal was not one they wished to pursue.

The club had already spent £100 million on Jack Grealish, and had been after a striker to bolster their attacking options.

United said the deal was subject to the agreement of personal terms, visa and a medical, with Ronaldo having flown to Lisbon ahead of international duty with Portugal.

A United statement said: "Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

"In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester."
