UNAVAILABLE: Fabinho and Alisson to miss Liverpool’s trip to Watford

Liverpool are expected to be without Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho for their trip to Watford due to the pair's international commitments.

Brazil are due to face Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier during the early hours of Friday morning - 1.30 am British time - just 35 hours before the Reds travel to Watford.

Assuming both players are double jabbed, Fabinho and Alisson would be able to play in the game as part of their quarantine rules upon their return.

However, it is unlikely that Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will decide to risk the pair with such a tight turnaround.

Klopp had previously bemoaned the exemptions made by the UK government regarding players travelling abroad for international duty.

Any players travelling to red list countries are allowed to train and play but must stay in a hotel or on-site team facility to limit contact if they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Fabinho spoke to the press ahead of Brazil taking on Uruguay and all but confirmed he and Alisson will miss the game.

The dynamic midfielder said: "I believe that this first match against Watford will be very hard for us, I don't think we will play. Neither Alisson or myself.

"The match against Uruguay will be Friday overnight there (in the United Kingdom) and the match against Watford will be half past noon.

"With all of what is involved, travel, I don't know how much time we will have between one game and the other.

"I believe that we won't be playing. We will also be in quarantine, but the club is still studying whether it is better to go straight to Spain to play against Atletico Madrid and quarantine there, without staying in a hotel in England.'"

With the club planning ahead for Atletico Madrid in midweek at least their absence may be limited to one game.

Diogo Jota was sent home from Portugal duty early with a muscle injury but is expected to be available for selection against Watford, as is Trent Alexander Arnold.

The game comes too soon for Thiago Alcantata though, who will miss the trip to Hertfordshire.

On this week's Shankly Gates podcast, the discussion around Fabinho and Alisson missing the match was a big talking point, including a debate on how Caoimhin Kelleher, who made his debut for the Republic of Ireland in midweek against Qatar, will fare as the starter.
