WILSON INJURED: Newcastle fans react as Callum Wilson is out injured

Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the news that Callum Wilson is injured and will miss the final 3 games of the season.

The 29 year-old pulled his hamstring in the closing stages of Newcastle’s stunning 4-2 win over Leicester on Friday night and will now miss the rest of the campaign.

His brace in that game means he will end with 12 Premier League goals in his debut campaign for the Toon after signing from AFC Bournemouth in September 2020.

Steve Bruce will be disappointed to lose Wilson to injury once more after he was so instrumental in tearing Champions League-chasing Leicester to shreds. It has been a season littered with injuries for Newcastle making Steve Bruce’s plea for fans to judge him with a fully fit squad tricky.

‘Give Elliot Anderson a chance’

Luckily for Bruce and Newcastle fans, Fulham’s defeat to Burnley on Monday night has meant they are mathematically safe in the Premier League.

Fans on Twitter have therefore reacted to the news that Callum Wilson is injured by calling for youngster Elliot Anderson to get some game time. The 18 year-old has been tipped for a ‘big future’ by Bruce.

@RyanWiggy on Twitter said: Give Elliot Anderson a chance now we’re safe see what the kids got

@jasonhebron on Twitter said: Time for @elljanderson to be brought in & given a few games not only to boost his confidence but also also to get experience on the pitch with the first team 👌

However, in his press conference prior to the Leicester game, Steve Bruce confirmed Anderson himself had picked up a hip injury.

He said, “He picked up a knock in the last game he played and it’s set him back a little bit. We’re not sure how bad it is but it’s a hip problem. He’s going to be struggling for the next couple of weeks.”

Bruce’s other striking options are Joelinton, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll as Newcastle look to finish the season strongly with games against Manchester City, Sheffield United and Fulham.
